When did George Herbert Walker Bush and Bill Clinton become BFFs? Clinton was on the news last night, talking about his upcoming surgery, and Bush was standing next to him, looking all concerned, like, “Gee, I hope my pal will be OK.” In fact, he seemed markedly more concerned than Clinton did.

I know they’ve been doing tsunami relief work together, which is great. But then they were at the Super Bowl. And now, it appears, they’re trading slam books and stickers and braiding each other’s hair. I kind of think that this is adorable, I’ll be honest with you. But it also shows that Bush Sr. has some class. I’m not going to lie to you: In Bush’s position, I can’t really picture being pal-sy with the guy who kicked my ass in a national election.

But then, I never really hated Bush the Elder as much. He always struck me as a pretty nice guy, with very different political beliefs than mine. No big deal. I’ve got lots of pals at all points of the political spectrum. I don’t want any of them to be president, but hey.

    Personally I think Sr. Bush has finally realized that he raised a fascist asshole, so he’s making up for it by doting on Bill, who is a little older than GW, but still can kick it with the kids. Hey you have to leave something behind for people to remember you by, and raising Bill will be just the thing…although you could go the Reagan rout and still be an asshole while you’re alive, this might save him some energy.

    My lack of understanding of the friendship has less to do with how GHWB could be friends with a guy who kicked his ass in the election, and more to do with wondering how a class act like GHWB could be friends with a complete sleaze/dirt bag like clinton.

    and if by “kick it with the kids” nelly means disgrace the country by getting head in the oval office with an intern, i agree, slick willy has GHWB, GWB, and Ronnie all beat, hands down. reagan was too busy gaining the respect and admiration of the world, becoming a role model for the youth of america, and acting as a example of a faithful and loving husband to get lewinski’d. but i guess the fact that he acted with dignity and respect makes him an asshole. he should have just taken the easy path and focused on extramarital felatio. slick willy, now THERE’S a guy that your kids can look up to. “yes, son in law, its ok to get blown by other woman when you are married to my daughter, if its good enough for the president, it must be ok for you too!”.

    How appropriate that a rabid Anti-Clintonite has a doublepost, because that’s what they do: repeat the same thing over and over again, in hopes of hiding the failure of administration verses one man’s failure of morals.

    Most of the time Bush the Elder was always seen as wimp. Even when he ran the CIA, he was considered nothing more than a complete wimp. The reason why he’s been warming up to Ol’ Bill was that he wants to meet the ladies.

    Not many people know this, but Bush the Elder plays a man blues piano.

    And another thing I heard, and this is all rumor down on the hush amd hush. Bill and George had an excellent adventure with Ted (Kennedy) in Eastern Europe at the Discos there. Dancing until six am.

    Until they were kicked out of a couple of clubs and went searching around for a White Castle.

    How Reagan got the kindly old grandfather persona assigned to him is beyond me…and a testament to the selective memory of most conservatives…

    The man who championed the idea of a “winnable nuclear war”, the man who launched an invasion of Nicaragua which was derided by the World Court as an act of international terrorism, the man who knowingly participated in a scheme to funnel arms to a hostile regime in exchange for hostages (which resulted in perhaps…the release of 1 hostage)…

    yea Clinton was a sleaze huh?
